There is a lot to be said for spending the winter in a place like Dubai. I think that I can get used to the lack of snow and wind and rain and hail.
I am coming towards the end of my stint in Dubai but I am still having to work some long hours. Today, though, I am not actually working. I was off yesterday aswell. I have a real shitty cold, headache, sore throat and stomach ache — am I suffering a UK winter cold guilt complex? Anyway, to save myself getting a warning letter from the management, I had to get out of bed, take a work bus for 35mins, wait for the company doctor, who then spent more time chatting me up then finding out what was wrong with me. Finally, she gave me FOUR different types of drugs — but wouldn't give me a doctor’s note since my temperature was only 36.5ºC. The company say that you are only entitled to a sick note if you have a high temperature. Then, you are not upsetting the guests’ enjoyment. Dripping snot on them does not count, apparently.
We have had a few friends over lately which has been nice. Took loads of pictures which I have sent over to Ron, so some should appear on this site.
Dubai is a lovely country to come to visit but I am not sure about working here long term. Maybe it’s just my job.
Another 9 weeks or so and I will be leaving Dubai, going with my friend Anna via Kiev and Budapest to stay with her family in Malmo, Sweden. We will stay there for 5 days and then I'll be home again in England. Anna’s parents have the whole 5 days planned already. All that Anna has told me is that there will be a party and that all her family will be there. Now all of my family consists of about 10-15 people at the most. Anna has 28 that I have to meet! Great! Is visiting families ever enjoyable?
I will be looking for somewhere to live in Sweden and I was surprised at how reasonable the property prices are over there. There is lots of space and not many people so building must be easier than crowded old England.
Glad to see that all the power lifters are back at work and seem to be getting their acts together. Once I am back, there will be three days of 'catching' up with my friends and then back to the gym. The little German so-and-so who beat me at my last competition now has my squat record so I want it back! I shall compete at the UKs before I go off to America and probably do the Dead Lift Challenge. Next year will be my last year as a Junior, so I will be going all out for some big performances.
Glad to see that the gym is going to have more men and women in competitions this year. Can we better the results of 2002 and 2003, when we collected over 40 trophies in each year? I think not!
